Fad Diets

For the last many years Fad diets have been becoming more and more popular. Atkins Diet, South Beach Diet, the Lazy Zone Diet, and Metabolism Diet are some examples in the long list of fad diets. Most people instead of following simple rules of good balanced diet and exercise want some miracle by which they can maintain healthy weight without eating healthy and without exercising. We live in this country that has food in the large supply and we are the fattest nation on the planet. Discuss ideas and share ways that can lead to the healthy life style, and how can they avoid fall in trap of the Fad Diets.

Instead of doing 'fad' diets, people should just go back to real exercises and eating healthy. Parents should teach their kids to eat healthy at an early age, so they will grow consume. Parents should also involve their children in things that keep them active throughout their lifetime, but are also fun for them so they will continue to enjoy it.

I totally agree. People are to obsessed with just looking good and not with actually being healthy. I would much rather be healthy than skinny. The healthiest way to lose weight is to eat right and exercise. I agree with Lauren, if kids are taught to eat healthy and exercise when they are young then they will most likely carry that with then their entire life.

If a diet sounds crazy and unhealthy, it probably is. Things like an all carbs or no carbs diet are kinda totally crazy. But, programs such as Weight Watchers or Jenny Craig still allow you to eat, just healthier food.

Basically, if you want to tone or lose some weight, just eat healthy! Less carbs, less fats, more fruits and veggies, and everything in appropriate proportions combined with exercise can help you be healthier and lose weight.

Personally I think, if you want to eat somwthing then eat it! Who cares about all those good, bad carbs! You know all those models and movie stars that people are trying to imitate? Well they don't starve themselves half to death trying to keep up their looks! They have trainers and health phisisans who tell them whats heathly and not. Oh my gosh they probably even eat chocolate! O.o Just cause we can't afford what they can doens't mean we can't run a mile every day and eat fruits and vegatables. We have a brain for a reason and it can't work right if your not eating right. Or taking drugs for that matter, but that is a totally differant topic.

I agree, I think that people should pay attention to how unhealthy things can be for them instead of wondering if they look good in a mirror. Lots of people also think that a diet consists of them starving or forcing their body to throw up. There are ways to look good in the mirror and still be healthy! Not only are people not treating their body right just look at how our proportions have evolved:

that just gross because not only did the 333 calorie burger turn in to a 590 calories burger but the 590 turned in to a 1010 original six dollar burger, All I now is that im going to eat healthier, have smaller proportions, and exercise. GO HEALTHY LIVING!!

People need to resort to making healthy coices in live(excersise, eat healthy) not use a "fad" diet to try to suddenly become healthy. Most of the poeple in the U.S. today think they can eat whatever they want and then when they become overwieght, will start some "fad" diet that will "POOF" make them skinny again. Take Biggest Loser for example, it takes alot of hard work for the contestants on that show to burn off all their wieght. Instead of putting ourselves in that position, we need to start making choises for a healthy lifestyle NOW.

People, especially teen girls are overwhelmed by seeing all those skinny girls in tv or ads all over the place. I think if we want to be skinny we have to work toward it and not just believe that the next diet or pill that comes up will make you lose weight.

I agree with Isabel that many girls are being mislead into the fact that taking pills will help you lose weight. I think the only true way to lose weight is to exercise and eat right. I also agree with lauren that if kids are taught to eat healthy at an early age that they will later in life have the feeling of always wanting to eat right.

I agree with most people on this list that to fad diets won't work. If you want to be healthy then do it the natural way. It right and exercise. Also you shouldn't healthy just to be skinny, you should do it to help your body function correctly.

I agree with Alayna and Isabel.
Many girls want to have the "perfect image" that they see on the tv and in magazines and what not. If people want to get skinny or get in better shape, i believe that they should do it the old fassion way, by exercising and eating a well balanced diet. Some diets now are crazy, they tell you it will make you lose weight, but its also very unhealthy and bad for your body. If you want to lose weight, start eating more vegetables, fruits, and appropriate portions. Also exercise is very important, and is very healthy for you.
I think that America today has become very lazy, and doesnt want to go old school, and eat right and exercise but instead start a crash diet.

"fad diets" should become a part of our pasts. I agree with many girls in this blog that have stated that too many people are shown the wrong idea of what is beautiful and healthy through the media and misguided peers. If we really want people to stop having these crazy diets, then we also need to stop giving children (and even adults) the wrong ideas about what is healthy. Some people starve themselves to look like models. These are the kinds of diets that could be prevented if real people were represented in the media rather than starving models.

Maybe instead of sticking to the fad diets that a lot of other people do, hence the word "fad", people should just try to stick to a daily schedule of exercise. Parents should also avoid from feeding their children fast food and instead cook a home cooked meal that would be healthy and delicious.

These days people are so busy they don't stop to think about eating healthy or getting exercise. So, they go on diets. They eat less and most likely won't lose the weight. As a result, they are less healthy. I believe we need to keep a balance of eating healthy and getting enough exercise. Also we are still kids and our metabolism is much better than it will be years from now. We should enjoy life!

I do understand the concept of why people are so like this. Even I have problems getting down and doing a few push-ups and sit-ups when I'm feeling a bit on the heavy side. Though, I do also understand that eating healthy and exercising is definitely beneficial at the same time.
Though I know that some of these diets do work to an extent, I don't agree that they're healthy. I do know someone who lost a lot of weight on the Atkins Diet, but the consequence was cutting out all carbs from his diet such as bread, rice, etc. which definitely wasn't healthy.
However, I do think that little diets, such as the "No Eating After 7:00", do work without the price of risking health issues.

Hello. I believe that if you are going on a diet still eat something for each meal. It is bad to not eat anything at all because it make the way you fell worse and you won't lose weight.

I agree, with some of these people because some diets are crazy and can be unhealthy if people take it too seriously for example people not eating right(skipping meals frm 3 times to 1 time a day) or u have these annarexic (sorry if i spelled that wrong haha..) Then you have your healthy diets like jenny craig or weight watchers that they still allow you to eat but just in smaller portions. I guesss my point is that it doesn't matter what diet you go on it's the exercise that you do or put into it, i mean you can eat less but all your doing is making yourself be more hungry, when you can eat a lot but healthier things and also could go to the gym and workout. I think thats the most important because thats how u can really gain a healthier life and can beable to watch your weight.
